Radio-Frequency Identification

To identify horses using the post, we use RFID technology. RFID is the use of radio waves to read and capture information stored on a tag attached to an object.

An RFID chip will be inserted in the horses naval cavity. As the horse dips its nose into the basin to drink, the microchip will be identified by an RFID reader surrounding the basin. Our post uses passive RFID chips as the range needed is very short.

Microchipping in the horse's naval cavity is painless to the horse and is common practice. All race horses in the United States must be chipped by law. Microchipping the horse is cheap and simple with veterinarian aid.
